Polished Stone Floor
Restoring stone floors can involve different levels of service and cost, depending on the floor’s condition. Options range from a basic clean and seal to a full restoration, which includes grinding the surface with diamond disks and polishing it smooth.
The price for cleaning a stone floor depends on the service you choose. Some floors only need light restoration, such as surface cleaning and replacing loose or discolored grout. This is faster and less expensive than a full restoration, which involves removing all the grout and grinding, re-honing, or polishing the stone.
When checking your stone floor, a specialist cleaning company should explain your options and recommend the right level of restoration.
Most stone floors are finished in one of three ways: honed natural, tumbled, or highly polished.
If possible, try to find out what the original finish of your stone floor was. For example, if your highly polished floor has worn down or lost its shine due to harsh cleaning products, you can often check the edges or areas behind doors to see if it was originally polished.
As stone floors wear, their pores open up and trap dirt. You might notice this if cleaning does not give good results. Once dirt sinks into the surface, it becomes hard to remove with regular cleaning.
At this point, you may still be able to deep clean the stone using a rotary machine with weights and diamond cleaning pads. It also helps to lightly re-hone the stone to close the pores and stop more dirt from getting trapped.
Before and After: Simply Floor Cleaning’s Limestone Restoration Process
If your stone floor is deeply stained and worn, we may need to grind it down. This removes the contamination and restores a smooth, easy-to-maintain surface.
After a deep clean, your stone floor will need a sealer. This helps protect it from stains soaking into the surface.
In many cases, stone floors do not need full restoration. A deep clean or light resurfacing is often enough to bring them back to a clean, attractive finish. After cleaning and sealing, polished stone can be restored using fine diamond pads or a polishing powder.
Many customers are pleased to find that we can achieve these results in just one visit, with minimal mess or disruption. A deep clean usually costs about half as much as full restoration and takes roughly a third of the time.
